Etsy fee questions, answered
Common questions from handmade sellers on Etsy.
Is the Etsy fee calculator free?
+
Yes, completely free. No account, no credit card, and no time limit.
What fees does Etsy actually charge?
+
Etsy charges a $0.20 listing fee per listing (charged again on renewal or when it sells out and relists), a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, and a payment processing fee of 3% + $0.25 for US sellers, which varies by country. Sellers enrolled in Offsite Ads also pay 12-15% on sales that come through one of those ads.
How much does Etsy actually take from a sale?
+
For a typical US sale with no Offsite Ads, expect Etsy to take roughly 10-12% of your revenue between the listing fee, transaction fee, and payment processing. That rises to 22-27% on sales that come through Offsite Ads.
What is the Offsite Ads fee and do I have to pay it?
+
Offsite Ads is Etsy advertising your listings on external sites like Google and Facebook. If a sale results from a buyer clicking one of those ads, Etsy charges a fee of 15% for sellers under $10,000 in the past 12 months, or 12% for sellers at or above that threshold, on top of the standard fees. You cannot opt out once you cross $10,000 in Etsy sales in the past 12 months; below that, participation is optional.
Does the listing fee apply every time I make a sale?
+
Not exactly. The $0.20 fee is charged when a listing is published or renews, which happens automatically every 4 months or immediately when a single-quantity listing sells. For listings with more than one in stock, you are not charged an additional listing fee for every unit sold, only when the listing fully sells out and renews.
How do I calculate my actual profit after Etsy fees?
+
Enter your true cost per item, the price you sold it for, and any shipping you charged. The calculator subtracts Etsy's fees from your revenue to get your payout, then subtracts your cost to show your real profit and margin. For help finding your true cost per item first, try the
product cost calculator.
Does payment processing cost the same for every country?
+
No. The 3% + $0.25 rate applies to sellers with a US bank account. Etsy publishes different payment processing rates by country. Check
Etsy's current fee schedule and adjust the rate in the calculator to match your country.
What is the difference between the free calculator and Batchforja?
+
The free calculator gives you a one-time fee and profit estimate for a single sale.
Batchforja is the full platform for tracking real payouts, costs, and margins automatically across every order as your shop grows.
Does Etsy charge fees on the shipping I charge the buyer?
+
Yes. Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee and the payment processing fee both apply to the total amount the buyer pays, which includes any shipping you charged them. This is one of the most common sources of surprise for new sellers — you're paying Etsy a percentage of your shipping revenue, not just your item price.
What's the difference between net payout and profit?
+
Net payout is what Etsy actually deposits into your account after deducting its fees from your sale revenue. Profit is what's left after you subtract your own costs from that payout — materials, supplies, the shipping label you bought, and any other cost of producing the item. The calculator shows both: your payout is what Etsy sends you, your profit is what you actually made.
How should I price my items to account for Etsy fees?
+
A common starting point for handmade sellers is to target a price where your profit margin is at least 40% after all fees and your true cost of goods. Work backwards: if your materials cost $6 and you need 40% margin, you need to keep at least $10 after Etsy's ~11% cut, which means pricing around $11.25 or higher. The calculator lets you test any price and see the resulting margin immediately. For a broader framework, see the
Etsy Pricing Cheat Sheet.
Does Etsy take a fee on gift wrap or personalisation charges?
+
Yes. If you charge buyers for gift wrap or personalisation, that amount is included in the transaction fee base. It's treated as additional revenue, so Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee applies to it the same way it applies to your item price and shipping.
When does Etsy actually pay out my funds?
+
Etsy processes deposits on a schedule you set in your payment account settings — daily, weekly, biweekly, or monthly. For most sellers, the default is a weekly deposit to their bank account. Deposits typically take 1–3 business days to appear depending on your bank. Note that Etsy holds funds if your account has a negative balance from fees or if your shop is under review.
Did Etsy's fees change recently?
+
Yes. The most significant recent change was in April 2022, when Etsy raised its transaction fee from 5% to 6.5% — a 30% increase. If you set your prices before that and haven't revisited them, you may be running on thinner margins than you think. The current rates used in this calculator are the US rates published by Etsy as of July 2026.
