$0.20 flat
$0.20 per unit sold, plus $0.20 when a listing is first published or auto-renews every 4 months. Sell 5 units from a multi-quantity listing in separate orders = $1.00 in listing fees.
Transaction fee
6.5%
Applied to the total amount the buyer pays: item price + shipping you charged + any gift wrap or personalisation fee.
Payment processing (US)
3% + $0.25
Applied to total sale amount. Rate varies by country; check etsy.com/legal/fees. The flat $0.25 matters more on lower-priced items.
Offsite Ads fee
15% / 12%
Only when Etsy placed the ad and the buyer clicked within 30 days. 15% if under $10k/yr in sales; 12% at or above $10k/yr. Mandatory once you pass $10k. You cannot opt out.
Regulatory operating fee

Applies in UK, France, Italy, Spain, Turkey. Does not apply to US sellers.
Pricing rules of thumb
- 2×Materials cost × 2 = wholesale floor. Don't sell at retail for this. It leaves no room for fees or overhead.
- 3–4×Materials cost × 3–4 = Etsy retail target. The extra multiple covers labour, platform fees, overhead, and profit.
- 40%+Target at least 40% profit margin after all fees AND after paying yourself for your time. Below 30% is a warning sign.
- 10–12%Standard Etsy fee burden on a typical sale. Budget for it before you price anything.
- 25–27%Total fee burden on an Offsite Ads sale. A thin margin can go negative on a single boosted order.
Signs you may be underpriced
- ⚠Profit margin under 30% after including the cost of your time
- ⚠Haven't accounted for Offsite Ads. A single boosted sale at 15% can go negative on thin margin
- ⚠"Cost" only includes materials, not the hours it took to make the item
- ⚠Charging the buyer exactly what you paid for the label. Etsy takes fees on shipping revenue too
- ⚠Prices haven't changed since Etsy raised its transaction fee from 5% to 6.5% in April 2022
- ⚠Profit disappears on gift wrap orders because the fee base is higher and you haven't adjusted
