How do I amortize a digitizing fee across a batch? +
Enter your one-time digitizing fee and your run size, and the calculator divides that fixed cost across every item in the run. A $35 digitizing fee spread across 5 items adds $7 each; spread across 50 items it barely registers, so run size changes your real cost significantly.
Does stitch count affect the cost? +
Yes. Higher stitch counts use more thread and take longer on the machine, both of which are real costs. Enter your thread cost by spool and your actual machine run time per item so denser designs are reflected accurately instead of assumed to cost the same as a simple logo.
What is a good profit margin for custom embroidery? +
A healthy margin for custom embroidery is typically 50 to 70 percent, meaning your selling price should be 2x to 3x or more your true cost per item, including your digitizing fee share and machine time.
How much should I charge for embroidered items? +
It depends on your true cost per item. A common starting point is to charge at least 3x your cost of goods. For an item that costs $11 to make once digitizing and machine time are included, $25 to $40 is a reasonable retail range depending on stitch count and blank quality.
