How do I calculate the cost of a crochet item?

Add up your yarn cost (based on yardage used and price per skein), any stuffing or notions, your packaging costs, and your hours at your hourly rate. Divide by however many items your materials made. The calculator does this automatically.
How do I price crochet by the hour instead of just materials?

Enter the actual hours it took you to make the piece and your target hourly rate. Materials for a crochet item are often only a small fraction of what it's really worth, since a detailed amigurumi or blanket can take many hours. Pricing on materials alone is the single biggest reason crochet sellers underprice their work.
How do I cost yarn by yardage?

Enter the price you paid per skein and the yardage listed on the label. The calculator works out your cost per yard, then multiplies it by how many yards your pattern actually uses, so switching yarn brands or weights doesn't throw off your pricing.
What is a good profit margin for crochet items?

A healthy margin for crochet items is typically 50 to 70 percent once your labour is properly costed in, meaning your selling price should be 2x to 3x or more your true cost, materials plus your time.
How much should I charge for a crochet item?

It depends on your true cost, and that cost is dominated by hours, not yarn. For an amigurumi that takes 6 hours to make with $8 of yarn and stuffing, pricing your time at even $15 an hour puts your true cost near $98, which should guide your retail price far more than the yarn receipt does. See
